Afghanistan has a long tradition of producing clay products, especially in the region of Ghazni, West of Kabul.   Functionality serves a dual purpose when it also decorates and glorifies a cultural history where both private and public spaces offer an endless palette to the clay artist.

These bowls and decorative tile are samples of items Afghan Tribal Arts has carried in the past.  Please inquire about current availability.

Decorative tile often serves as accent pieces in tiled areas in kitchens and baths, but can also be used as art in their own right.  Plate hangers or stands work well for unique pieces, such as these three, salvaged from an old building.

Bowls like these have been featured in many design magazines.  Their spontaneity and simplicity works well with many styles of decor: primitives, rustic, shabby chic, modern, eclectic, and others.

Please note that glazes in Afghanistan are lead based; therefore, they are not food safe.  They are fine for dry foods (chips, candy, apples, etc.), but not for wet ones.  The bowls should also be hand washed.  Many sizes are normally available.

Reproduction Alabaster Carvings

Occasionally, alabaster carvings like these are available.  They are pre-Islamic in design and are themselves quite old.  We estimate that they are from the 1930's if not older.
