Carpets, rugs, kilims?
An ancient craft practiced by both nomadic groups and small factories,
this art is quickly disappearing due to the industrialization of the
region and the time it takes to finish one piece.
Afghan Tribal Arts has a large
collection of tribal rugs with a special focus on the truly hand-made,
nomadic and small village production. Each is one of a kind, but
all speak to a long history of beauty and utility.

Maimana, a city in Northern Afghanistan, is
famous for making the finest kilims in the region. The wool is
hand-spun from Galzai and Hazara sheep.
Kilims are a flat weave
rug, much like Native American rugs, and can be used as throws,
tapestries, as well as floor coverings.
The tough quality of the
fibers make them long-lasting and they are easy to clean.
